PLATEAU | SCREW YOU ‘GAP SYNDROME’!

It’s extremely common, a habit that many don’t even realise they have, and one that I have often been guilty of too. Hell, I bet we all have at some point. The classic ‘gap syndrome’. This is an unofficial term, but you’ll understand why I’ve referred to it this way once you’ve read this little blog post.

Here’s the scenario – you have a goal, let’s say you aren’t happen with your current body shape or job and you want to change this, you know what you want to achieve – in this instance, the way you want your body to look or what you want to get out of your job. Yet instead of choosing to focus on the steps you can take to achieve your goal, we often focus on the gap between where we are now and where we want to be (our goal), and how freaking far away it is!

5 BEDTIME RITUALS TO BOOST WEIGHT LOSS | WORLD SLEEP DAY

It gets knocked back on our list of priorities, and a million and one things seem to come before it – watching Netflix, checking work emails, responding to emails, doing housework, calling your friend,  there’s always something we ‘need’ to do, and our bedtime takes the biggest hit, as we stare our bodies from sleep. Sound familiar?

It’s almost as if it’s turned in to a crazy competition with the thinking of ‘how busy I am and on how little sleep, dictates how successful I am’. Sorry to break it to you, but this is just darn right ridiculous behaviour, and will lead to burn out, as starving your body of sleep puts a large amount of stress on your body and mind, which in turn raises your cortisol levels – that little stress hormone, which could be one reason why your weight loss has stalled.

I’d be the first to go for bold titles and bright coloured book faces, but that’s just my preference – a little like my choice in leggings! It’s the snazzy cover and summary that makes you grab it off the shelf, but there’s more to a book than just a cover. You’ll have heard the saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, well the same principal applies to our bodies. It doesn’t matter what the cover looks like, as it’s what’s on the inside that tells a thousand beautiful tales.

Following on from my recent blog post about why stretching is just as important as exercise, I thought I’d share with you my top 5 stretches that I include post-workout to stretch the entire body. One of the key benefits of stretching post-workout is that it helps to eliminate lactic acid build up in the body, reducing muscle soreness and fatigue. It also helps the body to gradually cool down, slowly reducing your heart rate whilst your body returns to it’s pre-workout state. Stretching has always been a part of my life, from ballet as a child, to training professionally as a dancer, to stretching post-workout, and it shouldn’t be skipped if you want to improve your performance.
